Dryococelus australis The Lord Howe island stick insect or Tree Lobster is a small, black, flightless insect (note that the image above shows a preserved specimen.) They were once believed to be extinct on Lord Howe island. Later it was rediscovered. There are only about 25 and they all live on a tiny rock called Ball's Pyramid in the middle of the Pacific ocean. When they are born, they hatch out of small brown eggs with apparent "lids" and are born bright green.
