AMAZONIAN GIANT CENTIPEDE

Scolopendra gigantea

The Amazonian Giant Centipede is a species of Myriapod found in South America and the Caribbean. It is the largest Centipede in the world, measuring 1 Ft (0.3 M) long. Like other members of this genus, this centipede injects venom through its lage forcipules, which are specially designed leg segments. The venom of this species can be very painful, yet fatalities from this genus are rare. The centipede is a red-orange with black bands and its legs are yellow.

The Scalopendra is an exclusive carnivore and will eat anything it can take down. They are commonly observed consuming large prey such as mice, lizards snakes and birds.
