Grapsus grapsus
The Red Rock Crab is a species of crustacean found along the coast of South America. They have bright red exoskeletons marked with patches of blue and yellow, giving them a striking appearance. They measure about 3 In (7.5 Cm) long. The legs of a Red Rock Crab are long and muscular, making it easy for the crab to run and leap away from a predator.
They feed by scooping sand into their mouths. After doing so, they sit for a moment and filter out food and nutrients from the sand. Finally, they spit the sand out as a tiny sphere. They also show a symbiotic relationship with the Marine Iguana, in which they pick off bits of dead skin and parasites from the lizard’s back.
