Parasaurolophus was a genus of large ornithopod dinosaurs that lived in Canada and the United States. The genus is well known for the large, hollow crest which was probably used to amplify calls. The name comes from the Greek words meaning ‘Near Crested Lizard.’ Some scientists have suggested a hypothetical skin frill, in which skin is stretched between the crest and the skull. If so, it would have probably been very colorful and used to attract mates. Parasaurolophus stood about 12 Ft (4 M) tall and was 30 Ft (10 M) long. Like all ornithopods, it was herbivorous. It is most likely that this dinosaur was diurnal. The dinosaur was discovered in Canada, 1920.
