CARNOTAURUS

Carnotaurus sastrei is a species of large Theropod Dinosaur from Argentina. Carnotaurus was made famous for its giant, horn-like projections that sat above its eyes. This is were it gets its name, which is Greek for Meat Eating Bull. The Dinosaur measured about 30 Ft (10 M) long and could weigh up to 3 Tons (2,700 Kg.) The Carnotaurus is well known for its tiny and immobile forelimbs. The arms were extremely small relative to body size, measuring only around a foot long. The four fingers were fused together, the second digit being slightly longer. Altogether, the arms lacked Carpals, Metacarpals and Radius and Ulna. The purpose of the arms is unknown. The horns are another strange feature. There are many theories for the use of the horns. They could have been used as a display to frighten off intruders or to attract mates. Others say that it could have been a weapon, either for stabbing or

ramming. Another possibility is that they could have protected the eyes during fights. Because of the dinosaur's light weigh and slender legs, it may have been able to reach speeds of up to 30 Mph (48 Kmh.)

Carnotaurus was discovered in 1984 by a team led by José Bonaparte. The adult specimen was found one a farm in the Chubut Province. The skull was crushed and the feet had worn away. The fossil also showed fairly detailed skin impressions.
