The Glasswing Butterfly is a species of Nyphalidean. They are found in Central America and occasionally spotted in Texas or South America. Their name comes from their unique, transparent wings which allow them to camouflage in multiple environments, unlike other species which are threatened when on a contrasting surface. They measure 1 In (3 Cm) long and have a 2 In (6 Cm) wingspan. The Glasswing may be mistaken for its sibling species Greta andromica, but is a brighter red and has stripes instead of spots.

Caterpillars feed on the leaves of toxic plants in the genus Cestrum. It is possible that they store poisons to combat predators. Adults feed mostly on the nectar of Lantana, Asteraceae and Boraginaceae flowers. Male butterflies form leks during mating season and compete for mates. This typically occurs in shaded areas of the rainforest.
