BLACK DRAGONFISH

Avery D. Standard

Updated: Nov 27, 2019

Idiacanthus Atlanticus The Black Dragonfish is a species of deep-sea spiny-rayed fish. It is known to be a ferocious and deadly hunter. It uses a special red headlight which it uses to sneak up on prey. Unlike most animals, it can see red light, making it virtually invisible to any prey that cannot see it. It uses small lights along its side to communicate with other dragonfish. It also has a luminescent barbel that it may use to lure in prey. They never have been known to grow to be more than 16 inches long.
