SQUIRRELS

Sciuridae is a family of small rodents. Most squirrels are small and have a pointed snout and bushy tail. Squirrels are very accustomed to climbing on trees and rocks using their claws and wide feet.

Squirrels are typically nocturnal or crepuscular although some species show diurnal behavior. Squirrels forage for nuts and berries and show hoarding behavior. Squirrels will eat as much as they can in the autumn and store nuts underground. The Thirteen-Lined Ground Squirrel (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus) has shown signs of predatory behavior and has been seen attacking small vertebrates.
