SECRETARY BIRD

Sagittarius serpentarius

The Secretary Bird (also spelled Secretarybird) is a species of raptor located on the African plains. They are among the largest birds in Africa measuring 5 Ft (1.5 M) tall yet only weigh around 9 Lbs (4.2 Kg) due to their thin build. They are recognised from their dinosaur-like appearance. They have claws on their feet measuring 3 In (7.5 Cm) long.

They are built to hunt down snakes among the grass. Although they can fly, they spend most of their time stalking among the grasslands. They search the ground for snakes and other small animals. When they spot prey, they leap upon it and strike it with their claws. The force of this kick can easily crush a snake’s skull.

The population of the Secretary Bird population has decreased from habitat loss and deforestation. This lowers the chances of finding a place to nest and lay eggs.
