COMMON HOOPOE

Upupa epops

The Common Hoopoe is a species of Kingfisher found throughout Europe, Asia and Africa and are the most widespread species of Hoopoe on Earth. They grow to be 1 Ft (0.33 M) long and weigh 3 Oz

The Hoopoe’s diet consists of insects and occasionally small reptiles and amphibians that it catches by probing its bill into the soil. They nest in hollow trees or abandoned burrows and lay about 12 eggs. In Leviticus 11, God commands Jerusalem not to eat the flesh of the Hoopoe.
