Tiburonia granrojo
The Big Red Jellyfish is a rare deep sea cnidarian. Its genus is named after the ROV Tiburon (Spanish for shark) which discovered it. The Big Red displays deep-sea gigantism, and can grow to 3 Ft (1 M) in diameter. Unlike most jellies, the tentacles of a Big Red are more like prehensile arms than the thin tentacles of most other species. It is unknown whether this species can sting.
They are estimated to live between 2,000-5,000 Ft (600-1,600 M) below the surface and have only been found in parts of the Pacific Ocean.
