SALP

Salpidae

Salps belong to a family of Thaliacean Tunicates. They are soft bodied and completely transparent. They form colonies built of tube shaped zooids that measure 4 In (10 Cm) long. They arrange themselves into a long chain. The tubes are closed at one end, and synchronously propel themselves by pumping water. It is known to be one of the most efficient forms of jet propulsion in the animal kingdom.

Salps are found in many different parts of the ocean. They are filter feeders, straining bits of plankton out of the water.
