Andrias Davidianus The Chinese giant Salamander is a species of amphibian and is the largest in the world. They can grow up to nearly six feet (2 meters) long and are found in streams upon Chinese mountains, although they have been introduced in Taiwan and Japan. They are critically endangered due to habitat loss and over-collection (they are considered a delicacy and are used in traditional Chinese medicine.) It is normally a speckled or mottled looking dark color. As most amphibians the salamander has no eyelids. It is known to make loud vocalizations such as barking, hissing, or even crying sounds. These sounds resemble that of a crying child hence it's Chinese nickname "infant fish."
